A short documentary about life on the garbage dump Smokey Mountain in Manila, the Philippines (English subtitles).

This was filmed by the Dutch Evangelical Broadcasting Company (E.O.) for the TV program ‘Nederland Helpt’ (Holland Helps) in 2008, and has been adapted for website use. The original TV series was made up of 4 short programs of 10 minutes each. They were broadcast in order to do fundraising for various projects, including those of Young Focus.

The main focus of Young Focus are the poorest of the poor who live in the squatter areas on and around Smokey Mountain, one of Manila’s garbage dumps. To be more specific, our focus is the youth; aged 0 to 20 years.
Young Focus has a holistic approach as we invest in the lives of these young people, involving social, economic, spiritual, mental and medical aspects of tackling the problems of poverty, via the following projects:

  1. School Sponsorship for children from 6-20 yrs.
  2. Child Care - care for malnourished babies
  3. Love 2Learn - special education for ‘out-of-school’ children
  4. Stepping Up - microfinance project for students
